[VAC] Re: Stereo Installation, 69 Overlander Int'l

Jim,
Many RV converters have 2 outputs: one is a more-or-less regulated
12VDC output for battery charging, the other is higher voltage and is
poorly filtered (if at all). The latter is used for the lights, fans,
pump, etc. There's an internal relay that connects the 2 outputs when
the 120VAC power is removed so that the battery can feed all loads.

The UniVolts that I've seen (2 very different styles) had a single
output, so were in effect large, heavy-duty battery chargers. There was
no seperate output for the fans + battery charging, they had a single
output that was connected to both the battery and the trailer's loads.

That's not to say that Jeff's trailer might not have one of the
dual-output style of converter. As you say, the best solution is to
replace either type of converter with an Inteli-Power or other good
3-stage charger.
