[VAC] Re: Synthetic transmission oil

Yes the oil cooler in front of the radiator probably does cut the water
cooling capacity, probably less than having an oil cooler IN the
radiator tank. The oil cooler gets to share in the air flow that I can't
get from the fan most any other place and gets the coolest of the air.
the engine and water cooling system has a thermostat to control the
water circulation because the engine benefits from being as warm as
possible to keep the water and lubricating oil from boiling or charring.
The transmission only benefits from warming up when its very cold and
then any heat above 70°F is probably less beneficial in the long run.

If you find the engine cooling system insufficient some mountain climb,
it can be easily enhanced by turning off the air conditioner (to cut
engine load a tad) and turning ON the heater full blast. The engine
temperature gauge should respond to that added radiator area almost
instantly. Passengers may not initially appreciate the added heat in the
desert, but they might be mollified to learn that riding is better than
walking.
