[VAC] Synthetic transmission oil

My 1972 ford truck has a factory installed transmission cooler. But it is
old. I have looked at the units sold in the Camping World catalog and
thought about swapping it out for a new one. But perhaps that is getting a
bit excessive compulsive. Maybe I can look at at the fins and size of
mine, and then at the ones in Camping World, and see if a new one is
appreciably larger.

One question on transmission coolers;

I see that they are mounted (at least in my truck) right in front of the
water radiator. Doesn't this cut down on the water cooling capacity?

>Your transmission can benefit from
>adding an oil temperature gauge so that you can back off the throttle
>when the oil temperature begins to rise unreasonably on those long
>grades up a mountain. You probably want to arrange for it to see oil
>cooler inlet temperature. Or transmission sump temperature, probably not
>oil cooler outlet temperature.

I see that is something I really do need. I'll start to work looking
around for one.

Thanks.
