Ken, the guard I saw at the RM VAC get together was a piece of clear 
corrugated plastic that slid into channels that had been riveted to the 
bottom and sides of the front window.  If you wanted to open the window, you 
could just slip the plastic up and out of the channels.  Really simple but 
does not work as a shade as the old green ones do when open.
