If a big capacitor fixes it, or a battery fixes, it the ferroresonant
convertor is depending on the battery or capacitor for filtering
pulsating AC to DC. Without one or the other motors will buzz, and
electronics will go ape. Monster capacitors are available in shops that
sell monster car stereo systems. They will not improve regulation. Under
light load the capacitor will charge to the peak of the AC which
probably is more than the lights will like.

A battery or decently regulated DC power supply will keep things
happier.
