[VAC] Argosy Restoration.
Hello!
My name is Jamie, and I've been lurking on this site for about a month now.
I've been picking up very useful bits of information regarding vintage
restorations, which is good, because that's what I'm doing! I currently own
a 1978 24' Argosy, which I have just taken my last trip in; I bought it 4
years ago, and it was in very bad shape. I got the interior back to almost
new condition, but I recently discovered that the frame is totally rusted
out, and not worth repairing.
So, I bought a 1976 28' Argosy shell, and I am just starting a complete
restoration on it. I bought it from a local RV dealer, (I know the
manager), and according to him, they have been the sole owner since early
1977. It was special ordered as an office, and as such, it only has a few
cabinets in it, and was never equipped with 12V, plumbing, propane, ect. I
plan on taking the shell off the frame, making some minor repairs to it,
replace some outriggers, and repaint and insulate it, and put the shell back
on. Once that's done, I will replace the floor, start rebuilding the
interior and run all new wires, ect. That's where my "retired" 24' comes
in...I'm using that as a donor unit. I'll be taking everything from the
appliances and cabinets, right down to the window locks. I feel kind of bad
for "gutting" my Argosy, but it's served me well the last 4 years, and I
will be transplanting the interior, (for the most part), so she will live
on.
Enough rambling. My questions are these: Has anyone seen Argosy's with the
door more toward the center of the trailer? It is located just forward of
the wheel well, instead of it's "normal" position. And 2...I'll be selling
the complete awning from my 24' Argosy, as well as some/most of the windows.
Any idea on what they might be worth? (I realize price can be subjective).
If anyone has any advice, or comments, I would appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
Jamie Swallow
