There might be an aftermarket turbo kit that would fit
it.
Try Gale Banks Engineeering or some other similar company
which typically advertises in Turbo Magazine or other hot rod type publication
specializing in turbochargers.
The unique feature of a turbocharger on a diesel engine is
that you get your cake and eat it too. The turbo provides more power AND
improved fuel economy AND improved engine life AND more power at lower RPM, AND
better acceleration. That is why Caterpillar earthmovers and even a
large stationery diesel generators come with turbochargers as standard
equipment.
The reason is that a diesel engine intakes ONLY air, and then
the combustion is caused by the injection of fuel. The turbo simply blows
more air into the combustion chamber (cylinders) to provide more complete
combustion (more power and less wasted fuel which appears as smoke).
Also, the turbo pumps the hardest when the enghine needs the extra air (oxygen)
the most - under heavy load (when it is smoking). Since you get more power
at lower RPM, the engine will last longer.
You can't go wrong with a turbo charger on a diesel
engine.
