My '68 28' Ambassador uses a 2" ball.  I picked up a 10000 lb capacity
convert a ball which has a pin through the ball that pushes out and the ball
can easily be changed.  Because it a 10000 lb capacity, it has a large shank
which does not use the spacer found in lower capacity ball mounts.  The unit
is stainless and works like a charm.  Not much more cost than a good
stainless ball and no hassle to change.  Some kits have 2 balls included and
some have 3.  Mine had two, a 2" and a 2-5/16" which my boat used.  I tried
the larger ball in the hitch before I towed the trailer the first time and
it was too large.  The 2" fit perfectly.
