[VAC] Re: Advice for newbie

Rick,
As you've not yet bought your tow vehicle, you have the opportunity to
avoid a bad decision. Nearly everyone will tell you, in terms to not
offend you too much, that the Toyota isn't the thing to use: it's too
light, too high, has a too-short wheelbase, and is underpowered.

FWIW: my choice is a 3/4-ton diesel truck (I'm personally partial to
Dodge, but it's your choice) with a cap (canopy, topper, whatever you
call it) covering the bed. My cap has side-opening doors so we can
access the shelves inside that hold the near-daily needs such as laundry
soap, CDs for the radio, etc. There is very seldom a need to climb
inside the cap for anything, as it holds only the rarely-used stuff up
front and/or under the shelves. I got the idea from a full-time couple.

I've never, ever heard anyone say, "Boy, I sure wish I hadn't bought
that big ol' [whatever] for towing, I'd much rather have an SUV".

I HAVE heard people claim that they get by nicely with tow vehicles that
many of us consider "too light". I've also heard more than one story
along the lines of, "we used to tow with a CJ-5, but things are sure a
lot more comfortable with our [pickup truck]".

Sorry I didn't beat around the bush, but you did ask. :-)
