[VAC] Re: Is this a real concern?

Hanta virus is a real concern, people have died from it in a town 20 miles
from where I live. The cautions noted in your email are valid, use a
respirator and wet down the mouse nests and stuff with clorine bleach and
water. Your local health department can tell you what proportions to use and
if the virus is in your area. Do keep in mind though, that the company that
issued the information "Healthy Homes" is in the business of making
contamination free living spaces and so take the information with a grain of
salt and find out if your trailer has come from an area with this problem
before you panic. I believe it is more prevalent in the south west. The
woman who died near where I live ( south west Colorado) had done everything
wrong, she was cleaning a mouse infested barn loft with no protection. The
insidious part of the disease is that it starts like a common respiratory
infection and quickly gets extremely serious and one can die almost before
one can do something about it.
I have owned my AS for 16 years and after having it sit for several years
unused without my cats in it, I did find some traces of mouse, but not much.
I think having a resident cat or two is the best prevention.
