If you must add this additional weight. You can apply a either a polyester type resin or a coat of epoxy resin. A lot of people prefer epoxy over polyester resin, epoxy is a little stronger, but the polyester may be more what your looking for in this particular application. You really want have to get it completely saturated, just a good even coat. But pay attention to the edges, thes must be coated good. If left unprotected the plywood will wick moisture. It will probably be a good idea to seal the seams once you complete the instalation. Now back to my first line weight. A 1/4" 4 X 8 sheet of treated plywood weighs 36 pounds.
