[VAC] Re: Clearcoat VS Polish...Discuss

I tend to agree, Jeff. I've got an Argosy, so it's not an issue for me (part
of the reason I DID get an argosy instead of silver a/s--the other two
reasons were . . . the great wraparound front windows I've got, and lack of
vista-views to leak and fog). But I think if something old and original
looks OK--that is, hasn't been messed up--leave it alone. I like the
"unrestored original" look. After much consideration, I've just scrubbed and
polished my original paint (it was way oxidized and filthy)‹flakes, gravel
pocks, tar spatters, and all‹rather than to repaint. If I may say so, it
looks pretty good. Vintage and well-traveled, but well-cared for. I guess if
I had a silver AS that was uniformly oxidized, I'd wash the dirt off and
leave it that way. If my clearcoat was coming off, I'd take it all off and
let it weather down. Not to denigrate the beautiful mirror-polished trailers
many of us own and which I admire in their own right. It's just a different
aesthetic.
