That is an excellent web site reference you provided. I

Actually, according the Jacobs website, Jacobs manufactures
and sells both types of brakes that we have been discussing. The engine
brake you described, which uses some mysterious (to me) hydraulic device, takes
over control of the exhaust valves and, as you said, is not attached to the
exhaust system. That system is offered for Class 7 and 8 truck engines
which are the large, 18 wheeler, over the road trucks.
If you go back to the Jacobs web site and scan down the page,
you will find the exhaust brakes we have been talking about. The one
Jacobs manufactures if offered for the Cummins powered Dodge Ram. It is
installed in the exhaust system and operates by blocking release of exhaust
gasses. That is also the same basic design as B-D and other light truck
exhaust brake manufacturers use for light truck and RV
applications.
