[VAC] Re: Towing w/ Toyoto 4x4

Roger,

Since this is just a one time tow you can most likely get away without the
extra coolers and gauges on the tow vehicle. To be on the safe side I would
choose a "cool" day for towing.

As far as hitch requirements:

--Weight distribution bars, depends on the trailer's tongue weight and what
the hitch and receiver are rated at for. You should see a weight carrying
limit and a weight distributing limit on the receiver. Be sure that you are
within the limits. Also, be aware that by putting weight on the rear of your
tow vehicle you are actually removing weight from your front wheels and
lessening the friction between them and the road.

--Sway bars, you can probably get away without these. To help reduce sway
make sure that you have 10 to 15 percent of the trailer's total weight on
the tongue. Sway is normally only a problem while on the interstates, you
may want to consider an alternate route just in case you encounter a lot of
sway. Sway can also be controlled by slightly engageing the trailer's brakes
using the bar on the brake controller unit when the trailer starts to sway.
