Some of the old-time caravanners would paint the
roofs of their 'streams, in the belief that it reflected heat better than the
shiny aluminum. i don't think any controlled tests were performed.
painting the roof would have no effect on dirt
washing down the sides, in any case.
although it was never a 'stock' option, the
high-polish 'mirror-finish' preferred by many vintage coach-owners is, imho,
preferable to cleaning, stripping, and re-applying a clearcoat every few
years.
