A few sewage plants do capture the methane from the treatment plants,
and a few land fills capture methane. After a bit of cleaning and
pumping to increase its pressure they generally use it to run spark
ignition engines and use that power to significantly reduce their
electric power requirements. It tends to require a large plant to be
financially feasible.

The problem of extracting methane from public sewer lines will be that
you will have to suck on the lines and will ingest much air to dilute
the methane.
