Yes. If you simply leave the valve open, most of the toilet materials
pass through, but some don't and don't stay wet, making for a really
painful cleaning job when the tank gets mostly filled with dried
material. If you accumluate effluent in the tank, along with liquid, it
tends to stay more liquid and to flush fairly clean.
