[VAC] running light problem

hello all...

i have an interesting problem with the running lights on our '65 safari.
when i plug in to the
towing vehicle (1996 grand cherokee) everything works ok for about 2
minutes. then the running
lights on the trailer go out as does the left rear light on the jeep and i
get the message "rear
lamp failure". however the brake and directional lights on the trailer
still work. when i unplug the trailer the left rear lamp is back to normal.
i plugged the trailer into my neighbors excursion and the running lights
stayed on.
i took the jeep back to the hitch center, he tested all circuits and
everything checked out.

at our unit breakout rally last weekend someone mentioned that, since the
jeep has amber
lights (even though they are for directionals) that this may be the culprit
(something about a diode issue) and that there is an
adaptor that can solve this problem (btw the excursion does not have amber
lights).

any ideas? all suggestions welcome...

thanks,
