The LED lights are good for many reasons.  They do come on (and off)
instantly. (a function of what they are made of)  They are (can be) very
bright.  They use very little electricity.  This last statement is what
causes some problems.  Some turn signal flash units, use heat as a way
of creating the flash.  LED's use so little electricity, that the
flasher doesn't heat up enough, to flash.  There are 'LED' flash units
now, that are made for people who want to convert to led lights.  There
are LED based replacement 'bulbs' that replace the standard 1156 and
1157 bulbs.  Really cool.  Quick on and off.  Much brighter.  A lot more
costly; but what is safety worth, if it helps someone NOT to run into
you?
