I have just redone the plastic inserts on vent covers for my '77 model with 
fiberglass.
If your parts are somewhat intact, fiberglass can do very nicely to pull it 
together and keep it that way.  A little silver paint after it has cured and 
it will look fine, especially since you can't get up close.  If you haven't 
used it before, you may want to experiment a bit with something else, but 
fiberglasss works wonders and isn't too difficult to work with.  Supplies can 
be found at any auto parts house or boating center.
