[VAC] Re: 1966 Safari

Terry,

The roof vent for the refrigerator can be replaced with a current, standard issue Airstream aluminum cover, shaped like the original but more durable.  The only challenge is the new vent is longer and must either be cut to shorten, or installed as is with new rivet holes.

I can't remember what the sewer vent stack looks like, mine is okay.  Someone on the list will answer that one.  Ditto the crank up vent covers.  A series of recent posts on that subject suggested several sources including Tru- Value hardware.  The posts are probably archived on Tom Patterson's site.

My rock guard awning was missing.  It would be very difficult to find an original because they all suffered the same fate as yours.  It think Wayne Moore built one and I'm going to inspect and photograph his at the WDCU rally next month.  I understand it was built of simple aluminum angle and lexan.

My original antenna is intact and apparently complete but I'm not sure I'm going to retain it other than for original appearance.  A new roof mounted antenna would probably be far more efficient.

Good luck with your restoration.  If you discover more problems, someone on the list will have suggestions.  Guaranteed.

Harvey
