[VAC] Re: Toilet for a 64 Globetrotter

Leslie,

I'm glad you found Thetford helpful.

Keep in mind, you can use a toilet that is shorter than the original because
a wide piece of plywood can and maybe should be installed beneath the toilet
as a spacer and strengthener for the somewhat flexible floor and also above
the toilet between the toilet top and bottom side of the enclosure.

I don't know if it was the original method but when I acquired my '66
Safari, it had a section of 1" by 12" lumber installed above and below the
toilet. I am in the process of putting it all back together and have cut
two pieces of 5/8" plywood, 16" wide and about 18" long (the front to rear
space of the compartment) to serve as spacers. One has a approximately 5"
or 6" diameter hole cut for the toilet flange and will provide a strong base
for the toilet to rest on and to distribute the weight of a seated person.
The other has been cut to match the size and shape of the toilet bowl and
will be wedged tightly in between the toilet top and fiberglass toilet
enclosure. When completed, weight resting on the toilet will be supported
by a reinforced floor.
