[VAC] Re: '51 Flying Cloud/Optional Bath
Reply to: RE: [VAC] '51 Flying Cloud/Optional Bath
The standard 1951 Flying Cloud was indeed a transition model - half old,
half new. It had the pipe frame chassis of the 1940's models, and the
standard body layout had the back end in the 1940's pointed style, and
the front end in the new for 1951 13 segment flat style. Supposedly you
get the '51 FC in any combination of body ends, but the ( | combo has
been on all the examples I've run across.
Same applied to interior layouts, this was the era of custom built
trailers, and the layout could be tweaked and fine-tuned to the
customers request - resulting in almost no two interior layouts the
same.
The 1950's showers were usually no more than galvanized sheetmetal pans
& that lined the bathroom compartment. A shower curtain contained
the water. The Toilet most often sat in this pan. This concept carried
forward into '60's, with fiberglass pans and shrouds as others have
noted. Looking through the photo archives you will find examples of
both.
If the '51 FC has something else, it could have been added at a later
date.
Pictures and a serial # can help ID whta you are really looking at, if
that helps.
Best of Luck,
RJ
