Most original equipment trailer connectors on tow vehicles have a pin for 
back up lights if the trailer is so equipped. The brakes could have been 
accidently attached to that pin or there could be a short between the brake 
pin and the backup pin in the connector on the trailer. This would cause the 
brakes to energize when you go into reverse. Phil
