Harvey,
  I would`nt hesitate to use epoxy  ("Git-Rot") or west system by gougeon
bros to repair an out of the way spot of rot, assuming you have enough wood
left to hold the resin , after all you can always cut it out when it comes
time to remove bathroom for some other reason at some later date - years
from now. They use it on boats all the time - its good (and messy) stuff.
