Jim,

Check back with the people who told you this.  I think they may have been
referring to current  Airstreams.  In the current A/S brochure, the Safari
line (23-27 ft) is described as "lightweight' as opposed to the "classic"
line  (25-34 ft).  For example, empty weight for a 25-ft Safari is between
4770 to  4920 lbs., depending on layout, while a 25-ft Excella is 6,000 lbs.

From what I've seen of vintage Airstreams, I doubt that there was any
difference between the construction of vintage Safaris and other models of
the same year, other than their lengths, and the differences in the
International and Land Yacht trim options, where available.
