Thank you for your inquiry to our web site regarding the inspection of an
out-of-state travel trailer that you are restoring. We apologize for the
delay, and are pleased to provide the following information.
If this department does not currently have a registration record for this
trailer, a vehicle identification inspection issued by a Texas licensed state
inspection station is required. Please contact the Department of
Transportation regarding all motor vehicle inspection issues. If you would
like to discuss matters concerning the inspection of your vehicle, you may
contact the Texas Department of Public Safety. They will be able to advise
you of any requirements that pertain to the inspection of out-of-state
vehicles that will be domiciled in the State of Texas. Their Web site
address is:
www.txdps.state.tx.us
Ph: (512) 424-2550
Because you have indicated that this vehicle is being restored, we are
sending forms and literature to the address you have provided. The forms we
are mailing (some or all) may be required before you may obtain registration
for your trailer and successfully apply for and be issued a Texas certificate
of title.
You may contact the Texas Department of Transportation Vehicle Titles and
Registration (VTR) Austin Regional Office with any questions you may have
regarding acceptable documentation and the proper procedures for filing
application for title on a "Rebuilt" travel trailer. You may contact that
office at:
Texas Department of Transportation
VTR Austin Regional Office
105 W. Riverside Dr. Ste. 115
Austin, TX 78704
Ph: (512) 465-7445

Services Specialists in the Vehicle Titles and Registration Division at (512)
