Re: [VAC] "56" 27' Overlander

Pro and Cons: Pro is that it has a heavy aluminum skin that will mirror
polish wonderfully. Cons: It is old and the rubber around windows and
doors may be dried out and is hard to replace. May not have either black
water or grey water tanks May only be 110V wiring. There wasn't a lot
of 12V installation back then.

When buying any trailer first thing is to check out condition of exterior
skin. Creases, and damaged aluminum cannot be repaired like steel.
Small dents and scratches are to be expected but any large damage I'd
look elsewhere.l Next check out floors inside at base of interior walls
and under couches, cabinets etc. Rotted floors can be repaired but if to
extensive it may be a bigger job then you want. Check as much of the
exposed frame as you can for rust. Also look for rusted out aluminum
along exterior walls at the base. On the '56 models the interior
fixtures may or may not work. These can all be replaced however. In
your thinking remember these are Vintage trailers but they are not fine
antiques so generally you should looks at a units potential to be brought
up to a useable standard and not necessarily something feel you should
restore to original condition. Some of original ideas have been improved
on. Other will have more to say.
