Re: [VAC] Battery sizing

Hi Hal,
There are two ways to do it.

The first is the long way which is to add up your electrical usage for a
typical trip and buy a battery with at least twice the amp-hour capacity.

The second is to buy the biggest battery which will fit into your coach.

I took the second approach recently and purchased a Concorde 4D size AGM
battery from www.solar-electric.com.

I currently have no on-board battery charging so must depend on the battery
for the entire length of the trip. I charge with a three stage charger
after each trip. Eventually I will add on-board solar charging.

Since there is no good place for the battery on the outside of the coach
and there is no battery compartment (vented or otherwise) in my coach I
chose the AGM sealed battery which recombines the hydrogen and oxygen
produced during the charging cycle and doesn't let them escape from the
battery. That way I can mount the battery in the coach without being
concerned with venting issues. The permanent home for my battery will be
under the clothes chest which is just behind the wheel well on the curb side.

Every ones situation is different. Let us know what you wind up doing.
