The canned liquid minwax oil stain will work well, but it
is tricky to use on finnished wood Try using a pigmented wax Briwax, for
example. If you use the liquid, brush it on let is sit for 10 min then wipe SOME
off and let the rest dry for a day. Tricky but with a few tries you can get near
