Chas - retro Airstreams are already hot, but you can still buy a good usable 
unit for not too much money.  I recently looked at a 70s model with twin 
beds, rear bath and sofa sleeper that would have been perfect for your family 
in good shape for $7000 ready to roll.  It was being sold by a man who had 
lost his wife and was not going to travel.  It you have two years you can 
take your time and find what you need.  Look at the for sale columns, ask 
around and do your homework. If you find a unit that is structurally sound, 
but looks a bit tired, you can do the work to spruce it up yourself.  I have 
a 1964 and have done redecorating, new floor surface, fixed the plumbing, 
etc. and I am not an expert in any of these things.
