[VAC] factory goofs
I am in the middle of re-doing the plumbing (6 freeze fractures found) on my
just purchased 1966 Overlander and have been quite surprised at the number
of factory goofs I have found.
First there was the water heater opening, apparently the heater was placed
on the floor after the outer skin was in place but before the inner skin
because the inner skin cut-out was too short to get the heater out through.
I couldn't get to the inner skin to cut it so I had to pry it and create a
curl in the lower edge until it was high enough.
Second the flair nuts on the shower faucet were not really tight, over the
years there was enough seepage to allow the sealing faces to corrode.
Third and unrelated to the water, there was the screw holding the left most
rear cabinet into place, this screw was so long (3 inches) that it went all
the way out to the tail light housing and put enough pressure on the tail
light that the rivets finally broke and the light was no longer attached on
the inside end.
These are all worker or supervisor related and don't reflect on the design
of the unit but all were avoidable.
I now have all the old plumbing out and will begin the refit this weekend.
