My '62 Globetrotter has the same problem.  My plan is to remove the existing
battery tray from below 
the front window and ad a wider tray, which would need to be raised up to
clear the LP tanks.  I've seen 
similar modifications, and if done right they look factory.  My local AS guy
can make it for me because the 
box is made up of simple cuts, and bends requiring some spot welding.  Going
that route I won't have to do 
any re-wiring.  I may even move the tanks forward a little, and create a
complete battery/storage box up front.
