Re: [VAC] Park model?

Steve,
There is no distinction of "park model" for Airstreams, especially
for early ones. They were all meant for travel. How long is this
trailer (hitch end to bumper), what is the serial number, how many
axles, what is the complete interior layout?
The toilet in the mid-fifties was a porcelain trailer/boat model
that opened to the hose with no holding tank. On caravans in the
wilderness, they dug a hole and put the hose through a piece of plywood
that covered it, then filled in the hole before traveling on.
You can use these hooked up to the waste receptacle in a
campground, advisable to have a trap in the line to avoid odors. Soon
after the mid fifties, they added a small holding tank fitted to the
bathroom and the same style toilet was bolted on to it.
You can install a modern RV/Marine toilet if you wish and a black
holding tank. A residential style toilet uses too much water and would
likely overwhelm the waste line. You would never be able to use it in a
situation where there was no hookup available (sometimes you get put in
the overflow section of a camp or all the full hookups have been taken).
It would use up your fresh water tank in a few flushes, too.
For a temporary solution, you can buy a self contain toilet unit, which
you must dump. There is also the blue waste tank on wheels used by many
vintage owners in rallies. They hook up with the hose to the toilet and
are wheeled to the dump station when full. They can be used for grey
water also.
Any Questions? Someone else on this list will chime in and expand on
this or maybe even correct any inaccuracies. good luck.
