Re: [VAC] Misfortunes on the road

Vanessa asked if her parents Bambi could have been riding on the same
dura torque axle as the single axle Trade Wind. Good question. A 1963
Trade Wind had a single axle, and it was a dura torque. It was a bit
heavier duty than the Bambi. Now if it was a 1960 Trade Wind, it would
have had a straight I-beam axle with leaf springs. 1964 Trade Wind
models had tandem axles, and this is the year tandem axles became
standard on 24 ft and longer. 1964 has a special number in the serial
number to indicate number of axles, because that was a year of change.
Are you all happy to know this trivia??

The final point about the Henschen axle. According to the factory, the
rubber in the torque tube has a tendency to settle and loose its
elasticity after about 25 years. The axle can be rebuilt with new
rubber at the factory, and the price is reasonable.
