Could have been  a great April Fools' - except that I used to have some
old farm implements from the '50's that had LH nuts.  Can't remember
which side they were on, though.  The studs had an "L" stamped into the
ends.  Used to be able to buy LH nuts at the tractor dealers, too. 
Don't have the foggiest idea as to what it was ever for...
