     I once owned a 1956 DeSoto that had left-handed threads on the drivers
side.  The lug nuts had a "L" stamped on them to designate this left-handed
thread.  Do the ones on your wheels also have this ?
     This left-handed thread was a safety feature, although certainly a
problem to someone like me who didn't know about them.  The first flat I
tried to change occurred when it was about 10 below zero up in Canada.  It
was a very very unhappy time, but ever since, I have sure remembered what
left-handed threads are, and about the "L" stamped on them.
