More simply, run the output of the RS-50 adjusted to 14.8 volts through
a silicon power diode to the battery. Put all loads on the battery. the
14.2 after the diode is just right for the battery, though statpower
claims their chargers treat a battery even better than a constant float
voltage.

I've the highest regard for Astron supplies, I think they use the 723
regulator chip about 20 years too long and they sometimes tend to self
destruct the pass transistors.
