Re: [VAC] ARGOSY????

Argosy was always made by Airstream and was the same as far as basic
contruction went. Main body feature was that Argosy has steel end caps as
opposed leafted aluminium of the Airstream. The aluminum skin of the
Argosy was painted. It is said that the Argosy aluminum panels were
discolored ones that could not be used in the airstream so after assembly
they were painted. I have owned three units, 20ft, '77, 24ft, '76, and
currently have a 30ft, '78 model. The Argosy sold for less money then the
Airstream and also did not contain some features of A/S such as doulbe
pane windows. However , they did have larger wrap around windows at front,
and in some years at the rear, whcih is currently a standard feature on
Airstreams. Parts are interchaneable. Argosy's have been elibible for
membership in WBCCI for the past five years. The first motorhome that
Airstream mfg. was the painted Argosy from around '74, for only a few
years and they then mfg it as an Airstream. You still see many of them on
the road. I think the largest MH was about 27ft and some were as small as
24/25ft. The Argosy is a very good trailer and in some features superior to
the A/S in that with its paint job it was a cooler trailer and much easier
to maintain with simply auto polishing techniques, has single pane windows,
and the large wrap around windows for more light.
