Re: [VAC] Dry Ice Air Conditioning

Not to "date" myself, but back in the late forties and early fifties
when I was in high school and before automobile airconditioning as we
know it today was in much use we would see cars going down old US
highway 80 with a torpedo shaped device, sort of like a small jet engine
with both ends open, attached to one window. Either the passenger side
or driver's side, usually the former, and there would be a flat tube
about 12-14 inches long by 2-3 inches high extending through the window.

Most of the cars one would see with these devices on them would have
California, New Mexico or Arizona license plates on them. I never knew
exactly what these things were, but was told that it was some kind of
"air conditioner" to allow
these folks to cross the deserts more comfortably.

Wonder if that could have been "dry ice" airconditioners?
