My experience with State Farm is the same as Jim Smith's. 
 The agent says my auto policy covers the trailer for 
liability (only).  I had to get another policy for the 
trailer to cover damage, and the insurance card 
specifically says "this policy does not carry liability 
coverage."

I do need to read my trailer policy to see what types of 
damage are covered and what isn't, and what limits it may 
have on the value.  As others have suggested, you need to 
agree with your agent on the replacement value, and buy 
"stated value" coverage accordingly.  I'm afraid my 
current coverage won't be enough if the trailer is ever 
totaled.
