I used Tek screws from the top. Tek screws are
designed to attach plywood to structural steel and
they are self drilling. I bought some at Home Depot. I
attached  the new plywood patch to the old plywood
with an  additional  5" wide plywood layer underneath
the joint. This was  attached from the top with
stainless steel deck screws also from Depot.
