Re: [VAC] '61 Bambi

S.Brown,

I also have a 1961 Bambi, Serial # 16TDSS-1627. Born on Jan., 1961. Welcome to
the VAC "herd."

On your Bambi tires, do you have the 13" wheels or has it been converted over to
14" rims? My Bambi has 14" and I'm running Toyo Z800 Plus radial tires. Since I'm
running radials on my Suburban it tows like a dream. Several items to keep in
mind are make sure the tires have adequate clearance in the wheel well openings.
Make sure the load rating of the tires is adequate for the loaded trailer's
weight with propane, water, personal items, etc. on board. On Bambi's the dry
weight is around 1,850 lbs and figure around 2,500-2,800 approx. lbs. when loaded
with propane, water and personal effects. At least this is the range where I'm at
with my Bambi. The tire store has proven to me that radials run cooler than bias
ply tires and that 14" lets you have a heavier load range than 13". I've used
these Toyo tires for 5 or 6 years now under some pretty rugged conditions and
never had a single problem in many, many miles of towing.

Hey, "S", since we don't know your name. Are you aware of the VAC rally starting
tomorrow (2/10) very close to you in Fredericksburg, Texas? It's at the Oakwood
RV Resort. The rally is through the weekend and cost is $80.00 for two or $70.00
for one including trailer parking. Day visits and late arrivals are accommodated.
The S. Texas unit of WBCCI invites you to attend a unique rally at which the
focus will be vintage Airstreams, their owners, and the unique way of life they
promote. There will be a display of vintage trailers and special speakers that
were on the famous African caravan . There will be lots of other most interesting
things going on as well.

I sure wish I could be there myself, but because of time and distance won't be
able to attend.
Consider joining the Vintage Airstream Club. If interested I can supply you with
details.
Good luck on your tires.

Pat
