Thanks Ray for your input.   The installation of a residential window
unit under the couch, then vented and drained and insulated sounds like
the best idea to me.  Relatively inexpensive, high output, less noisy,
inconspicuous, easy to repair.  What more could you ask for??

The Delonghi, and the Toyotomi, and other portables will do the job, but
just barely.  7 or 8 thousand btu is just not enough to cool a little
silver tube in the great Southwest, or in the humid climes of the South
east.

Ray, did you have a sheet metal box made to encapsulate the unit or to
help catch the condensate and let it drain??
