RJ, I have only tried this method partially. I reused the old shrunk up
retainer and filled in the gaps with caulk. This way if I ever have to
replace the window again, I only have to scrape out a few inches on each
side, not the whole thing. It doesn't look perfect, but is not as bad as you
might think.
