Re: [VAC] Fuse Panel

Kiki,
Get a copy of the book "Managing 12 Volts" by Barre and "RV Maintenance
and Repair" by Livinston. Both have very good basics of RV electrical
systems.

The easiest method of figuring out what is what is to remove the
connector from the trailer pigtail and get a 12 Volt battery for
testing. Before starting on the trailer be sure that your tow vehicle is
wired correctly; http://www.championtrailers.com has diagrams in their
"Tech" area. Then, connect the '-' terminal of your battery to the
trailer frame, making sure to have good contact. Use an inline fuse
holder with a 15 Amp fuse to connect the '+" side of the battery to each
pigtail wire in turn, making a chart of which wire controls which
function. You should find that one wire is the tail/marker lights, one
is the LH signal/brake light, one is the RH signal/brake light, one is
backup lights, one goes to the battery for charging, one will go to the
brakes (you should hear them 'click' when applying power and you'll get
a spark at the wires), and one will be trailer ground. Touching the
latter will probably blow your 15-amp fuse. Note that the 2 wires for
'Charge' and 'Ground' will probably be heavier guage than the others.

After making your chart, simply connect the wires to the plug, using the
diagrams that you found at Champion Trailer's site. Assuming that the
tow vehicle is wired 'by the book', of course.
