Jeff, I'm from NM too, just outside Albq. I have a new - old 72 Overlander. According to the wiring diagrams I have for the plder AS, older than mine, the "yellow" is for back up lights. The "black" was for +12 volt hot line. Normally, the brake lights work off the turn signal line. Cliff Meier
