Dave,
 Not only are the colors specified on connectors, the FUNCTIONS are,
also. A/S used some colors for non-standard functions, but if the
connector is wired by function, not color, all is well.

When I got my A/S, the cable was all cracked and rotten looking, so I
simply replaced the entire thing back to the connection under the belly.
Wired the new cable to the new connector according to spec, pulled it
in, and spliced it according to function, paying no attention to what
color was what under the trailer.
