Re: [SilverStreak] Rear floor replacement

The flooring removed was carpet (which hid the problem of the leaking toilet
for some years), and we replaced it with cork tile. B Yes, there is some
evidence throughout trailer of seams. B But we don't find it at all
objectionable, as:

1] No more dust (the carpeting was impossible to clean

2] Noise. B The cork is just as quiet, surprisingly.

3] Comfort. As promised, the cork is warm in winter and cool in summer. B Love
it!

4] Clean-up is quick and easy.

Any "hard" floor is going to show subfloor seams. It is vital to get the
floor as smooth as possible (painstakingly) as even small imperfections
"telegraph" through.

I used fairly ordinary wood. I just took the time to sort through every
sheet in stock to get the best (least warp; fewest knots).

We had to use SawzAll to cut a few fasteners in the removal process. Good
luck!

Ross

Subject: [SilverStreak] Rear floor replacement

Hi, thanks for link -- found your posting, really interesting. Nice that
most of the screws weren't rusted into the frame. all mine are rusted beyond
use and will have to cut them off and redrill the holes. I like the idea of
replacing a single 4x8 sheet in 3 sheets. any problem with the seams showing
though the floor? I can see the 3 peices make replacing the floor without
removing the body a reality!

I'm thinking of using good one side 5/8 or 1/2 inch marine plywood. I'll
measure the 5/8, maybe the actual measurement is 19/32"? Is this the factory
specification?

Jason
