In reply to my rant about the WBCCI, I got a wonderful email from Rob Baker,
VAC 3rd Vice President. He was kind enough to tell me that he had looked in
his grandfather's 1965 WBCCI Memebers book and found that my Caravanner (at
the time) numbered 1744 was owned by Maynard and Trella Nusbaum, 520 West High
St., Elkhart IN. They were also listed as offering courtesy parking. I went to
Google Earth and was able to find their house, and even to see the enlarged
driveway for the courtesy parking! I'm going to make some calls and see if I
can find their survivors (as I'm almost certain that they have passed), and
find any old photos of my A/S. Trailer genealogy! Rob also offered some
information and sources for work that I need to get done in order to get my
Caravanner back on the road. Many thanks Rob. You are a gentleman and a
scholar. This sort of camaraderie, to me, is what makes owning and restoring
vintage Airstreams so much fun.
